The ASA layer works as a sacrificial shield: it absorbs ultraviolet radiation and oxidation so the structural PVC core underneath does not degrade. A genuine high-grade tile uses virgin ASA resin from reputable petrochemical suppliers, co-extruded at a controlled thickness of 0.15 mm or more on each face. Cheaper producers use recycled ASA, blended fillers, or reduce the coating to as little as 0.05 mm — which may look identical straight from the factory but will chalk, fade, and crack within 3–5 years.
